My take on the tale of Orpheus. A tale of what happens when an artist uses his powers to create beauty and then terrible dissonance. A love tale like no other. Our hero walks through the hell to retrieve his love and when he is uncucessfull in rejoining with his lover, Orpheus rages outward at the world with his gifts creating terrible music of disharmony and heart ache. It's a warning to artists because Orpheus is ripped limb from limb by the towns people. Art is power and power has to be kept in check. This tale could apply to visual artists as well. During my years of surgeries when I lost everything dear to me, I though I could easily become Orpheus and make dark cruel terrible art. Art that bring froth war, anger and fear, In the end I chose to stay me. The tale of Orpheus is not just about how powerful his love was but what he does with his artistic gifts, both good and bad. That is the real lesson. Artists are powerful.
