Artist's Description

Made while I was in recovery from multiple orthopedic operations, this series is about losing and then finding the will to live. In 2014 my hip bones began to crumble because of Avascular Necrosis. Now in 2016, I am just starting to walk again. The mid section of my skeleton in pure metal, both hips & legs. It is a miracle that I walk. A miracle that I do not take for granted. The "Zebra Boy" imagery was made so I could escape pain, turning tragedy into myth so I had somewhere to go. The characters I create are part of me, but sometimes I think I draw them so I never actually have to become them. There is a sadness to the character that could not be helped but also a mystical driven quality that I was only able to access because of my deep longing to physically rejoin the human race. After the third surgery I had completely lost my will to live. There is a limit to how many times you can ask your soul to hang on to your skeleton before you give up and I know where that limit is.
